About the Fund
Longfellow's JRLC Fund meets the academic, emotional and physical needs of Longfellow students by supporting the Jeanne Richie Learning Center after-school program.
For more than 16 years, Longfellow Elementary School’s after-school program has been providing academic support and enrichment for students. But when the federal grant that funded the program was abruptly cut in 2018, the community came together. An anonymous ECASD retiree made a high-impact gift to establish Longfellow’s JRLC Fund, a quasi-endowed fund to support the program’s needs.
The retired teacher is proud to support Longfellow. “Having seen the program in person, I know how much it helps the kids,” she shared. “The volunteers who give their time and energy cannot be thanked enough, but the practical side costs money. I'm happy and proud to contribute to that.” Her incredible generosity inspired an outpouring of community support, including additional major gifts, allowing the JRLC after-school program to remain open!
